5V Mini Power Supply

5V Mini Power Supply
4.88889 5 9 Product

This is a 5V mini power supply unit. It is capable of driving a 1A load at excellent line and load regulation.

The circuit is based on the LM2575N-5 step-down (buck) switching regulator. Requiring a minimum number of external components, this regulator is simple to use and offers a high-efficiency replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators. It substantially reduces the size of the heat sink, and in many cases no heat sink is required.

You may wonder what's the purpose of the full wave diode bridge in this DC-DC power supply. It seems unusual having a rectifier after DC input. Well, there is a simple explanation:

The diodes bridge is there so that the end user can ignore polarity when applying DC voltage to the circuit. It allows connecting the input by using any polarity rather forcing a specific one.
